Projects - live - houses

Our brief had originally been to refurbish an existing stone cottage but it transpired that the building was in such a bad way it had to be demolished. The nature of the site, (landlocked behind other buildings and high walls), and the close proximity to a listed building of national importance meant planning insisted the design of the new house had similar characteristics to the original cottage.

Our design externally to the front was of a similar proportion and appearance (but with a contemporary twist), however we turned the house upside down by locating the bedrooms on the ground floor, and moving the living accommodation on to the first floor to allow a light filled double height space, and introduced a glass gable end offering views of the countryside in the distance.
